- व्यक्तित्व के विकास में जितना महत्त्व मितभाषी होने का होता है, उससे कहीं अधिक मृदूभाषी होने का, क्योंकि मृदूभाषी होना व्यक्ति की विनयशीलता और शिष्टाचार का परिचायक होता है। जिन लोगों में अनेकानेक गुण होते हैं किन्तु यदि वे मृदुभाषी नहीं होते हैं तो उनके गुणों का मूल्य भी घट जाता है। वैसे लोगों को अपनी कटु वाणी का दुष्परिणाम बहुधा ही भुगतना पडता है। वे परिचितों और मित्रमण्डली में भी उपेक्षित ही रहते हैं। केवल परिजन नही बल्कि परिजनों द्वारा भी वे ठुकरा दिए जाते हैं। एक व्यक्ति मात्र अपनी मीठी वाणी के कारण सम्मान का पात्र बने रहतेे है।
गोस्वामी तुलसीदास ने कहा है
- ''तुलसी मीठे वचन ते, सुख उपजत चहुॅं
- ओर बसीकरण एक मन्त्र है, तज दे वचन कठोर।।''
इस प्रकार हम वाणी और व्याहार में जब तक एकता न हो तब तक वाणी में शक्ति नही आती ।
सभी कार्य वाणी द्वारा नियन्त्रित होते है। वाणी उनका मूल हैं। वाणी से उनकी उत्पत्ति होती है। जो व्यक्ति वाणी से ईमानदार नही, वह सब कामों में बेईमान होता है।
- मधुर वाणी बोलने वाला सबके दिल में जगह बना लेता है ।
- एक ऐसा व्यक्ति है, जिसे लोग गुड़ की भाँति ग्रहनण करते हैं वही दूसरे को कडवे नीम की तरह थूक देते हैं।
- अप्रिय वचन बोलना वाणी का दुरूपयोग है और वाणी का दुरूपयोग व्यक्ति के पराभव और पतन का हेतु बन जाता है।
- दुसरो के कठोर किन्तु सत्य वचन सुनने की आदत डालनी चाहिए।
